Seasonal affective disorder Seasonal affective disorder is a real illness, and many people start to become depressed during the winter months thanks to being holed up in their homes and due to the lack of natural light. Seasonal affective disorder has many symptoms. Those affected may suffer from fatigue, drop in energy levels, lack of interest in sex and constant sleeping. Most people who suffer from seasonal affective disorder end up seeking therapy or taking medication in order to combat the illness.

Another way to combat seasonal affective disorder is to try and nip it in the bud before it starts. These tactics are used to trick your brain into thinking that you are still in the well lit and happier seasons. There are plenty of home décor and lighting systems that you can purchase to make your home less depressing and allow you to happily live your life.

Rearrange your furniture.

You may want to consider rearranging your furniture during the winter months. Not only does this give  you a change of scenery in your own home, but you can move couches or chairs so that they’re directly under windows and allow you to soak up the natural light as it comes in.

Change your hangouts.

If you spend most of your time in a dark room of your home, you may want to consider spending more time in a more well lit area of your home during the winter months. For example, if you spend most of your time in your bedroom, you may want to spend your time in the room that has the largest windows and allows the most light to come in.

Open and close your shades.

Let the natural light into your home by opening your blinds or shades. This will allow the sunlight to come in during the day, which can make you feel less depressed.

When the sun starts to go down, make sure that you close your blinds and shades so that you cannot see how dark it is outside. Then make sure that you turn the lights on in your home so that it’s well lit.

Invest in a sun lamp.

There are lamps that you can purchase that mimic sunlight, and you can easily buy and use one to help you combat seasonal affective disorder. UpLift Technologies Day Light is a great light that you can use that will mimic the sun’s natural rays and make you feel as if the sun is shining. You can also purchase a light visor that you can wear around your home or outdoors. This contains a small light at the top of the visor that shines on your face, mimicking the sun. You can place a sun lamp in multiple rooms of your home so that you can enjoy the “sunlight” no matter where you are, or you can keep one in the most popular room of your home so that you can reap the benefits when necessary.
